ODI status en EK U15 reacties

De ODI status en het EK onder 15 zijn alweer van "even geleden". Toch werden er de afgelopen dagen nog reacties ontvangen die de moeite van het delen waard zijn.

Paddy O'Hara was umpire official tijdens het EK U15. Hij vernam dat de ODI status is toegekend en zegt daarover het volgende:

"Theo,   Just a quick and very belated congratulations to you, on attaining ODI status for Salland C.C..  I am really pleased for you and  for your unstinting efforts.

I look forward to a future visit and to see the fruits of your continuing labours.    With best regards to you and your team.

Andrew Scott (Belgisch umpire tijdens het EK U15) maakte het helemaal "bont".

Hij kwam met een soort EK U15 dagboek dat via deze link is te lezen. Het geeft een aardige inkijk over de persoonlijke beleving van Andrew tijdens dit evenement.

Over de graswickets zegt hij: "For the tournament we would use the two grounds at Deventer, Salland Cricket Club and Utrecht, Kampong Cricket Club. All three were grass wickets and all three had ground staff, who we cannot praise enough for all their help throughout the week. Any problem we had no matter how big or small was fixed with a smile. They were a joy to talk to and to work with, they helped make the umpires life stress free. They could not see what all the fuss was about, this was there job and they took pride in their work. It showed. Thanks for a great week."

Graswickets in Nederland

CricketEurope maakt als onderdeel van een artikel over graswickets in Nederland melding van de ODI status van Salland met de volgende woorden: "The recent news that ODI status has definitively been granted to Het Schootsveld in Deventer is a fully justified reward for the dedicated group of people at the Salland club, and rightly recognises the hard work which, supported by the KNCB and their local authority, they have put in over the summer to meet the ICC’s requirements.

Het gehele artikel is de moeite van het lezen waard (zie deze link). En het zal naar verwachting zo links en rechts wel wat reacties in Nederland te weeg gaan brengen. Verrassend is het overigens niet want de clubs met graswickets hebben de KNCB al gewezen op de gesignaleerde gevaren.
Voor ons geldt, ook na het lezen van het artikel,  slechts één motto: "Keep up the good work", met of zonder de ODI status, en zoals in Deventer al 15 jaar met betrokkenheid en plezier wordt gedaan. En gelukkig maar dat spelen op gras altijd aanleiding is voor dicussies of commentaren, want anders zou het weleens saai kunnen worden!

ODI trekt de pers

Het bekend worden van het nieuws dat de ODI-status een feit is heeft ook de aandacht van de lokale pers getrokken. Een enthousiast team van Deventer TV liet zich door de groundstaff uitgebreid voorlichten over graswickets. Ook de Stentor schenkt aandacht aan ODI!

ODI status nu een feit

Vandaag om 14.45 ontving de KNCB het bericht van de ICC dat "Salland CC has been approved for ODI/T20I cricket" Met de volgende toevoegingen erbij van de ICC ("A good job done by the club to get the necessary improvements in place") en de KNCB ("Well done to everyone at Salland - outstanding effort"). En zo is het! Tijd om ff te genieten!

Zelfs de lezers van de Daily Mail weten het: Salland is gekeurd!

Dat Chris Broad de century van zijn zoon heeft gemist is één ding... maar waarom! Daar draait het om. Dit zegt de Daily Mail erover: Broad senior has seen much of the summer’s Test action but missed his son’s historic innings as he was abroad on ICC duty in the Dutch city of Deventer, preparing a report on the suitability of ground for one-day international cricket – about which he was obviously delighted.
